Benevolent Program Blessing Box

Wow, Wow, Wow, Wow, Wow!

Thank you for the massive food donations to the Blessing Box.

We take such joy in seeing the cupboards stocked and no longer bare!

Now we feel we can put out items again for the very hungry!!

A new option: If you wish to donate specifically to the Blessing Box, it can be done two ways.

  1. Make a donation to Benevolent Fund, with the designation “Blessing Box” and purchases will be made on your behalf in the amount you donate.
  2. Alternatively, you can make your own purchases and submit your receipt. You will be reimbursed with a cheque in the amount of your purchase. The second step is to give Chalmers a cheque in that amount. In order to receive a tax receipt, the church must do a cheque exchange with you.

Thank you.

Meeting of Congregation on June 8 at 7pm

Last Wednesday, several of us met to hear details of what has been happening lately in the circles, got some clarification from our Administrator David King on his and other roles in the church, discussed the new Vision Moving Forward statement and discussed the Action Plan for the next 6 to 12 months.  If you would like to receive a link to view the meeting in its entirety, please email

Thank you gardeners!

Nick SteinbergNews

Many thanks to Jean Sills and Jean Alexander, our annual church flowerbed gardeners.

Because of their work, that they’ve done quietly behind the scenes for years, we will once again all enjoy flowers on the church and church house property throughout the summer.

Reading Group

Reading group

This is for anyone interested in getting together either in person or on zoom to read and then discuss books. Please call Ruth T. at 613-328-7720 if you are interested. We will make decisions about the types of books we would like to read. One suggestion is, “The Betrayal of Anne Frank” by Rosemary Sullivan, examining who turned in the Frank family to the Nazis and the story and drama behind the withdrawal of the book from publication by its Dutch publisher and later reissue by a New York publisher.

Other suggestions have been: Spirituality, Non-Fiction, Fiction, Biographies/Autobiographies.

Congregation news

Nick SteinbergNews

Tejitu and Medina have now moved to start their new life in Toronto.

An outdoor celebratory dinner was shared with them last week and then a more formal good-bye was held in church on Sunday. So ends several years of effort to help bring Medina over from Ethiopia and Chalmers congregants providing refugee support. We wish them well as they adjust to their new home.

 Big news!

Chalmers has a new website.  It is still at the same address https://chalmersunitedchurch.org/ however, it has been modernized to fit today’s devices and lots of new features have been added.  You will find a calendar of what is happening at Chalmers.  We also now have a team to keep the site updated so that you can always see the latest news and events.  There is even a member’s page where Chalmers specific files such as meeting minutes, reports, and budgets can be seen only by those with registered accounts.  Account setup is available by contacting the website team. We hope you will find the new website easier, more useful, and inviting. Please explore it. For any suggestions, additions or deletions for website improvements please contact us at .

PASTORAL CARE – A Message from our Regionally Appointed Administrator

Jointly with the Pastoral Care Team, I am delighted to advise that The Rev. Dr. Don Misener has been retained to both provide and shepherd the provision of pastoral care to the Chalmers Church community.

As a contracted service provider, retained for the next 6 months, and at cost of $1,500 per month, Dr. Misener’s work will entail visiting parishioners, resourcing the pastoral care team, and being available when emergency pastoral care situations arise. Additionally, and as his schedule allows, Don will also be available to preside at funeral/memorial services.

Should you have need of pastoral care support (or know of someone who may) please advise any member of the Pastoral Care Team (Al Fletcher, Mike Hartlin, Doreen Morrison, Isabel McLeod, Marjorie Mason, Joan Egnatoff, Ruth Tracy, Mary Davis Little, Heather Faris, and Linda Steinberg). In the event of an urgent matter, please reach out to Carol Sleeth in the church office; she will facilitate an expeditated response.

Please join me and the Pastoral Care Team in welcoming Don to this role and thanking him for undertaking it.

Yours truly, G. David King, Administrator/Commission of One
